The Beast

The next sight one sees after passing Carambola Golf Resort is “The Beast”, a steeply inclined section of the road that leads down to the Caribbean Sea. The Beast was probably named by runners and cyclists because of how difficult it is to ascend. At some points the grade reaches over 20% incline!

The Beast is perhaps the toughest part of the St. Croix Half Ironman competition. It’s also a great place to view the azure blue waters of the North Shore. When driving be careful to put your vehicle in low gear (so as not to overheat your brakes) and watch for locals coming the other way (some drive too fast)!
